There wasn't a trial with Nixon. He was smart enough to resign before it happened. The Democrats in the House made sure he knew what he was facing and the Republicans in the Senate were smart enough to avoid a public shellacking and asked him to resign.

Republicans used to be smarter. Not so much, anymore.
