cause a team to overlook a supposedly lesser current opponent as they anticipate the future matchup.
GA winning means the GA game just got exotically important.
If we beat GA they are literally out of the East.
That raises the stakes substantially making this 'later matchup' even more important.
This is all EXACTLY what 'trap game' means.
