Mizzou started wearing black jerseys only in Don Faurot’s

final years in the 50’s. Before then, his Tigers wore old gold jerseys at home with gold pants. The helmet, though, had always been black as far back as when leather helmets were first painted.
Paul Christman’s retired #44 gold jersey used to be on display at Hearnes, but the AD stopped it even before Mizzou Arena was opened.
I would think that Mizzou would want to appeal to the old farts coming back for homecoming and not bring out the most garish uniforms of the year. Retro uniforms would have been a much better choice, but since when does our AD put any thought into anything?
