Let's use Oregon / Knight as an example and say he invested $200m in a basketball fund. They could easily earn $6 million in dividends and spread it across 5 player or 6 starters each year. Each November 1st they buy a playing card with the kid's face on it for $500k to $1 million per.
If the kid leaves school or doesn't play - they don't buy.
The bigger issue in my opinion will be transfers. A kid at Iowa State is a star but Texas agrees to pay him $250k if he'll transfer for his graduate season to be depth for 1 year. People don't like the idea of so many players redshirting season year and transferring but why wouldn't that explode?
