amateurism in their athletic programs. That's what the non-profit universities want, as well as the fans of the non-profit universities. An athlete is offered free tuition, room & board, training, and many other benefits related to their mission as a student-athlete.
I will say it again: Those athletes are allowed to attend the universities and profit from their name, image, and likeness while doing so... they just won't be allowed to play for the university's amateur NCAA teams. This is for tradition and integrity of the game.
Athletes who don't want to be a part of that tradition, who don't feel the pride of playing for their favorite school, or don't value all of the benefits that NCAA student-athletes receive these days, can go pro while they attend and pay for college.
