and even in the word of God, there are tales of war, going back to the beginnings of man. We find archaeological evidence of man being killed (skulls with obvious damage showing that they were hit with blunt instruments).

War happens for a variety of reasons. A steadfast belief that you are right and others are wrong about religion; economic oppression and opportunity; political dominance; greed. But if it happens, you want to be on the winning side.
