It appears that all of the Ohio State violations fall in the category of improperly contacting recruits, i.e. during a no-contact period.
Mizzou's violations fall into the category of improper additional aid to student athletes. That is doing homework, taking tests for student athletes is in the eyes of the NCAA the equivalent of paying $$$ to the athletes.
Not everyone, i.e. the NCAA Appeals Committee, my buy into the argument that calling or texting a kid outside of the authorized contact period is more serious than giving more aid than allowed. The latter could be viewed as the equivalent of paying a kid SSS under the table.
Additionally, Mizzou's violation occurred while it was on probation.
While I would not be surprised if the NCAA dropped the post season ban, at least in football, I also would not be surprised if it just flat denied the appeal.
