They are usually in the hunt for the big10 title/national championship and had a ton to lose but chose to self-report.
One of the pillars of Mizzou's argument is that, if the ban and other penalties are upheld, institutions will no longer self-report or cooperate as we did with the NC2A. This is categorically false as evidenced by a monster in the college football world doing the exact opposite of what our argument stated.
