from being ensnared in a criminal trial and diverting the attention of the President to his/her defense efforts. However, you've got to have a Congress that's willing to do its job and not be so partisan as to allow the POTUS to completely dominate them. Since Politics are now big money enterprises, that's less likely to happen.
