If they show the officer failed to exercise due care.

People who rode with me on hot calls always commented how cautious I was running hot. Had another officer (younger) riding once and I came to a damned near stop at a 4 way intersection cotrolled by traffic lights just to make visual contact with several of the other motorists and make sure no one was going to turn left in front of us or t-bone our car. It left an impression on him.

I had a captain early in my career who said "you can't help anybody if you never get there".

Also had a friend meet MedAct at a blind intersection running hot to the same call. Hit her car so hard she broke the barrel out of the 870 shotgun. Quick assessment and she was not a life threatening injury so MedAct continued on their call and left her there for another unit.
