simply a product of our genetics and environment. Then, we're just doing what we've learned to do and observe it through our consciousness and believe we've chosen something. Our consciousness allows us to witness what we do.

So, no, we aren't born with the obligation of loyalty to a nation state.

And, yes, we are individuals, but we don't own our minds, bodies and lives (but we think we do because of our consciousness).

We are slaves to a certain extent, in so much as we do what we do because it is either hardwired (genetics) or learned (environment). To whom we are slaves, in this scenario, is an interesting question.
