because I can see how that would be interesting to see social mobility over the course of a lifetime and get demographic trends that might be useful for any number of purposes.
To me, its an innocuous question and the data is protected by law. Regardless of what the intent is of the folks putting it forward, it shouldn't be able to be used for those purposes. There are other protections in place. Why would ethnicity matter? Obviously, it mattered back in the 3/5ths days, but those are long gone.
