my definition of socialism is.
At the time i was watching the democrat debate debacle and hadn't the time, energy or inclination to respond. But the question was fair and deserves a response although my definition is probably like that of any thinking person on this board.
Before i render a definition, i will describe the responses that will come because of it:
The Idiot will say i'm wrong. He will go on and on (condensed into about two sentences) about PURE capitalism, PURE socialism and the fact that i am in fact a socialist as i approve of social security for retirees. Recall that others on the board said that bernice anders is not a socialist, despite what he thinks he is.
FOTI, friends of The Idiot will echo his thoughts and offer insightful comments like, "You're an idiot", "lol" or similar brilliance.
My definition will be scrutinized, scrubbed and parsed to pick apart the meanings of every jot and tittle i write. Since The Idiot and his minions have nothing to say to argue the substance of the points made, they will attempt to invalidate it by tearing down the definition. And while my definition will be closely scrutinized by some, the comments and argument will be limited to a couple words of attack and invective.
Change the subject and attack. Duh.
My definition is not intended to be a Merriam Webster definition. It is not a learned or academic definition or description of a philosophy or a technical treatise on the ideology.
It is based on those things, but mainly it is my shorthand definition for socialism.
It is in general and in practice, short hand for big government. Huge government that controls healthcare, the kind of light bulbs you are allowed to use, the kind of energy you consume, the material used in the straws you use in restaurants, the amount of salt a restaurant can provide in food...and myriad regulations designed as roadblocks or impediments to business.
The kind of speech that can be accommodated in the public square and the fact that religion must not be practiced or preached, save within the sanctuary of the church.
What offends people is determined by the socialist government. Religion is offensive. Open sex acts by gaze or transgender crazy people while smoking dope in the presence of children is natural and therefore not offensive and has the right to be seen. Soon it may be a requirement to be seen.
Government will tell us who may and who may not be offended by what acts or items.
What is taught in government schools.
What is not taught in government schools.
What is male and female and who gets to use the girls's bathroom.
What you may say on school property.
What you may not say on school property.
What is hate speech whether on school property or on Facebook.
What is acceptable and politically correct and what must not be done or said or thought.
..........
Government defined tolerance which has come to mean not tolerance but acceptance the embrace of perversions, insanity, racism and hatred for our country, our founding our traditions and our way of life. Tolerance also requires absolute and total intolerance for anyone or anything that does not fit the template of tolerance as defined by the socialists and promulgated by the media.
Socialism is a belief as voiced by bernice anders that business is bad and big business is terrible. A belief echoed by the injun and the black marxist that, "you didn't build that". And a belief that government is paternalistic, benevolent and compassionate and the people over whom it holds dominion are not capable to doing the right thing for their own families; and government must oversee all the important decisions.
Socialism is contrary to nationalism. And no Idiot, nationalism is not a bad thing. Nationalism is patriotism. It is pride in your country. It is the love of country above self.
Socialists don't get it. Does anyone think obama believes anything is more important than obama?
.........
John lennon's socialist manifesto, Imagine says "Imagine there is no country....nothing to kill or die for.....and no religion too...."
That is sweet. And like most of socialism it requires the repeal of human nature. Which is what equality requires. Humans don't want to be equal. We are competitive, we want to be better than the next guy.
But that means some people lose. Can't have that. Human nature must be repealed and replaced with the belief in equality.
Not in competence, not in excellence, not in achievement. Only equality.
Like in havana and venezuela. Equal misery is equality.
Women are the physical equal of men. Women and men are totally equal, emotionally and intellectually. White people can run as fast and jump as high as black people.
Everyone is equal. The only reason that some people outperform others is that one group is favored or privileged and the other is the victim of oppression.
There is a derivative of socialist lunacy that says that race and sex are social constructs. Imagine...
.......
Social justice is now nearly a synonym for socialism. Forced equality by punishing success and rewarding sloth. Providing disincentives for hard work, sacrifice and deferred gratification. Rewarding instead, victimhood and special interests.
Imagine....
.........
And here is the kicker, the socialist manifesto as espoused and promoted by john lennon and that ilk is not what the socialist leaders really want. At least it is not what they aspire to after they get a taste of power.
Fidel castro by some accounts was the wealthiest person in the western hemisphere. At least by some accounts at some point in time. Suffice to say that he was living pretty well.
Like bernice anders. Bernice only has three homes, i imagine castro had a few more. Multiple homes and extreme wealth is unfair when attained by capitalists since "you didn't build that". But government empowered socialists are doing good things for the people so unlike the ill gotten gains of greedy capitalists, the equally lavish lifestyles of government socialists were gotten though good works and pure thoughts.
And socialism has a way to morph or evolve into marxism and communism, more extreme and more ruthless forms of government totalitarianism.
To The Idiot and his infantry, yes i know there is no pure form of socialism as there is not pure capitalism anywhere in modern societies. But the ideology and the aims of socialism exist in hybrid states in many parts of the world and it is the degree to which the government assumes control over many/most aspects of citizens's lives and livelihoods that determines if a government is socialistic, or socialist.
I don't expect reasoned debate on this. Dare i hope that you will eschew the opportunity to offer you pithy if pathetic posts in response?
Yes, The Idiot and even some intelligent thinking grown ups can poke some holes in my definition of socialism. That's fine. But this definition while lengthy is likely incomplete but it encompasses most of what i believe socialism to be.
Imagine.
