Good points. I also think our public relations with HS athletes and the community in general has gotten much better.
Our recruiting had been generally trending upward since Pinkel arrived until the sh@tstorm in 2015. Programs do not recover from something like that overnight. Add a new coach to that scenario and recruiting took a big hit. But people have short memories, especially kids being recruited now (who were probably 13 or 14 in 2015 and really don't care).
I also think Sterk and the AD have done a pretty good job with the NCAA in playing the victim card. This gave us a positive spin on a negative situation. Every report that I saw felt that the sanctions were way to harsh. I think this plays into BOs gritty, chip on their shoulder type of player.
Also, having a basketball coach from the St Louis area has helped build a path into STL recruiting for all sports.
