In some cases, there's nothing magical about the law

In different countries and cultures, including our own, the books are filled with silly laws, well-meaning laws that are impractical or overbearing, etc.
But, if you accept the notion that the law is a collective representation of the society, and though imperfect, it's an attempt to maintain order and some kind of structure, then actions are to be interpreted in connection with the existing law.
Thus, while I might not agree with its application in a particular case, it would seem to me that the better path is to argue for a change of the law, or for amnesty or pardon for those who have broken it. My opinion. You're entitled to yours.
I don't see the magic in a natural law that doesn't guarantee survival. It would certainly be more peaceful if folks didn't infringe on others.
