outside of a couple mid-major teams, ALL the at-large teams come from major conferences, so as long as you are in a major conference and are competent, you will get in the tournament.
Baseball has many more good mid-major teams that will qualify for at-large bids. That greatly shrinks the available spots for major conference teams. In some ways it is not fair, because a P5 team could go 13-17 in their elite conference and get left out in favor of a 17-13 Big 10 or AAC team when that same team would have won 20 games in the Big 10. That's just the way it is though.
