Ever since allegations of Adidas funneling money to players that Bill Self wanted to sign KU has not won the Big 12.
The negative impact on recruiting is also very obvious. Through the early and late signing period KU has the 8th best recruiting class...in the Big 12 and it ranks 58th nationally. Since KU has not been able to funnel money to players the top talent has stayed away. They currently have 1 four star and 1 three star commit and no top 115 ranked players, this according to 247.
It has been stated many times that KU also got Adidas to pay the refs as well. This was most noticeable in Big12 road games. Since there were no payments going to B12 refs this year from Adidas/KU their road record was the worst it has even been since the inception of the league. This includes a beatdown of 28 points by Texas Tech.
People want to marvel at what a great coach Bill Self is, but when you have the refs in your back pocket and you are able to secure the services of future NBA stars, there is not much coaching prowess required. If you take Chris Beard at Texas Tech by way of example he made the national title game with one future NBA player (Jaryd Culver) and he was largely not impactful in many of the tourney games. That is what great coaching looks like. No one will every confuse Bill Self with being a great coach. Even those members on Phog net are starting to come to this reality. Winter is coming....and it is about to be a long and cold period for KU hoops. Next yer at this time I will write their obit. Even a healthy Aziduke can't save them from themselves.
