I was like 20-21. Going west to Columbia from St. Louis.

The cop had me sit in his front seat (because of the highway-sigh) and then asked me if I had any drugs in the car. I laughed and said no, cause I didn't.

He came back with a flashcard and what looked like a couple of scraps of dirt, a seed of some sort, and tiny amounts of dusty residue that looked like sand as much as marijuana.

He asked me again and then said he was going to take it "to the lab."

I laughed at him some more, and then went back to my car with no ticket or anything and was on my way.

Did I smoke weed?

yes.

Did I have it in the car?

nope

Did I ever?

no

Nor was I a dealer.

But I assumed there was some sort of NSA crap on me, enough for this guy to have a red flag pop up on his computer scan that said "search me"

otherwise, it was the strangest experience of suspicion that made no sense
