It isn’t surprising, though, that the best teams tend to have players who command more minutes.

But if you have 9 or 10 guys who genuinely deserve to see the floor, sitting them to adhere to a short bench for the sake of it probably isn’t helpful. Especially if you’re a program that’s still building. Final Four teams typically have guys who have earned those minutes and then some. Teams just fighting for a tournament spot are more likely to lack clearly superior talent, so minutes will naturally fluctuate more throughout the year.
