History as anyone, but am embarrassed to say I kind of always assumed John Brown’s number had been retired 45 years ago. It is impossible to compare players from different eras but it’s legitimate to argue Brown was our best player ever. He was an Olympian and all I have read indicates he would have been a starter on the 1972 team before he broke his foot again.
By all accounts, he was sort of the beginning of the “NBA curse” for Mizzou players. He and Stipo were legitimate future All-NBA players derailed by injury.
I know John personally and to say he is “laid back” would be an understatement. I suspect he will wear blue jeans and a scruffy Mizzou sweatshirt at his induction
