This has effectively dehumanized people. It's the type of dehumanization that has led to genocide.
Many of those separated were seeking political asylum. This is a legal process.
Assuming they entered illegally, it is a misdemeanor on par with speeding 15 mph over in Missouri. It carries a maximum of six months in jail, but we know that never happens.
So to be flip and callous about young children being separated from their parents and who, by the way, may never be reunited, says a lot about where we are today.
