Kansas should be held accountable for what their apparel partner, adidas did. That's the only way, in sum, to hold adidas accountable - to enact a penalty severe enough to have kansas leverage their $190 M contract with adidas to ensure they are good actors in this.
And before anyone from the blue side goes all Yolanda on me, there's a huge difference between the two situations: first is a $25/hour tutor who intentionally set Mizzou up to fail and then attempted to extort the AD; second is a partner with which the ku ad has a $190 M relationship. MU has severed ties with the tutor - long ago, what has KU done with adidas?
If I were NCAA, I'd have to find out if DeSousa was aware of the cash transaction. If he was, then he's permanently ineligible. If I determine he was not, he will be ineligible for his collegiate career at KU, but he can transfer and play next year without having to sit out. In determining this I would err on the side of the idea that the player knew what was going on.
In addition, ku vacates the wins in which DeSousa participated, and either ku disassociates with adidas, OR both ku is suspended from postseason play for this year AND bill self is suspended for anywhere from 12 games to an entire season.
