I assume you have never been faced with the decision...I used to work on a cardiothoracic stepdown unit...the kids generally had cogential heart disease or a lung condition (CF usually)...some conditions could be fixed and we would never see them again (tetralogy). However, many conditions (lung transplant) were only moderately successful and the kids suffered substantially.
Even after seeing the suffering...the poor prognosis...I don't know what choice I would make, but I'm not going to call a parent a murderer, if they decide to stop "treatment," given the "life" the child is expected to have.
Similarly, I am not going to judge a child that makes the same kind of decision with his/her aging parent.
