The player he was last year is almost certainly a G-League player for a couple of years. Its hard to make an NBA career once you go down that path, but it can be done. Hopefully he has evolved/improved, but its hard to envision that given he can't play until after the workouts would have taken place. So it would be drafting him based on sort of projected improvement and ignoring injury risk.
Being a late round draft pick to a good team, sitting on a bench or playing in the G-League for a year or two, then having that team still be good and start making contributions might be the best possible path. Or taking a long term approach he could just become an NBA caliber player in college and remain there throughout his career.
