"We should admire all women" vs "We should admire all military personnel"

...because the 1 million people in the latter group made the choice to join the military?

So, the immense difference is the one collective decision to join the military, and you'll admire all 1 million of them without knowing anything else about them.

It's a difference, but it's not immense. In the context of this thread, I would find it a little weird if someone posted an article about a military member who was also a world class sculptor, and tried to make it more about the person being a military member. Wouldn't you?
