Why did the folks at CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, NYTimes and the like FAIL to do BASIC journalism due diligence before running a story on their front page/lead story that destroyed the reputations of the innocent Catholic school kids?

Why are they now running like hell away from admitting they were negligent in their jobs? Wait until the lawsuits start hitting them (since the kids were not public figures and they can EASILY prove that the media did a calculated hit job on them because some wore MAGA hats)...
