It has not sufficiently been investigated. Various news stories have been published claiming he is a Vietnam War veteran. Near as I can tell, Phillips has not been quoted debunking the false narratives surrounding his alleged service. He has been quoted as claiming to be a Vietnam era veteran. However, he has actively participated in schemes to enrich himself from these false narratives, including PayPal and GoFundMe initiatives. He has had ample contact with the press and could have disavowed these false versions of his bio, but he has failed to do so.
