Several things could be in play

I’d have to see the play again and I really don’t want to but possibly after showing a vanilla defense, they stunted their lineman and an LB or two to the A and B gaps guessing that since we had had some success on that play and we’re a smash mouth team, we’d do it again ?

Possible our lineman at the point of attack was just beat ? That happens. We put up over 600 yds total offense but some plays don’t always work.

The chess game comes into play here to some extent.

Also if we did what you think was so obvious and didn’t get the first down, you would never admit that you were wrong since being wrong is an impossibility to you.
