or not a child goes to college. If a parent pushes education, pushes reading early, pushes challenging classes, and has expectations of college, the child will be far, far more likely to go to college regardless of whether or not they go to an affluent High School.
My best friend growing up had no push from his parents to go to college. Sophomore year of HS, I asked him if he were going to go. He said probably not. I asked, dumbfounded, why? He never asked himself that. He has since gone to Mizzou and gotten an MBA. All because I pushed him to go where his parents wouldnt.
I challenge you to go speak at some of these "bad" high schools that you mention. You would want no part of it. Nothing to do with it. There is a culture within the school that school isnt worthwhile. Where does that come from? Surely more money could fix it?
