"had no chance in the world to succeed". The fact is she wasn't retained as the head coach because she in no way or stretch of the imagination had the qualifications, at this point in her career, to be the head coach at an SEC school. She was never meant to be anything more than an interim coach to get Mizzou through the season with some semblance of continuity.
Although you could say that her chances of success (as Mizzou softball historically defines success) during her one interim season as head coach were slim and none, based on the fact that the previous coach left her saddled with the worst pitching staff in the conference. Now that would be an entirely accurate statement.
