I had a client that was charged with felony assault with a weapon. That weapon, a handgun, was seized. The case was thrown out at prelim and it took the client six months of follow up for them to release the weapon back to him.

Had a LEO in a rural county tell me that a lot of personal property that is seized eventually ends up miraculously missing years later. Most people just figure they can't get it back when they can.
