I'm curious about the term "committed"

The Federal law only says "committed", but Maryland uses the term "admitted" with "voluntary" and "committed" with "involuntary".

From person experience, I know there are major differences between voluntary and involuntary, but I don't know if there is a difference with the term "committed".
