What are the criteria for lying in state in the rotunda?
I don't know.
What is the normal length of time for flags to be at half staff?
I don't know.
I cannot help but wonder if the media, the socialists and the never trumpets with an R are exaggerating his importance to embarrass the president. Extending him honors that are out of line with his accomplishments.
Suppose you were the prez and a sworn political nemy of yours, even from the same party, died? Would you pretend you loved and respected him? Would you pretend that you thought he was a great public servant when everyone knows you didn't?
If trump were to make a fuss over mccain, give him a state funeral, statues in the rotunda, name a battle ship after him and change the name of the state of washington to McCain, he would be called a hyocrite and a liar.
McCain doesn't want him to speak at his funeral. You can bet that the other living presidents will use their time to get shots at trump, disguised as commendations for mccain.
And ftr, i don't begrudge mccain not wanting trump there.
That takes me to a point discussed briefly (albeit not by me) y'day. Cindy mccain has been discussed as a replacement in the senate for her husband. It's not a tough job, she could do it. Heck, the pickle could do it. You don't have to know anything, you just push THIS button for yes and THAT button for no.
But assuming she and her husband were on the same page re trump, she could be a big problem in the senate regarding confirmations and such.
I don't know her and these concerns may be unfounded. I have no overriding reservation of someone succeeding his/her spouse in congress. But i am very leary of this one.
