senators are torn between voting for their country, or voting for their career.

Seems their career always wins.

Imagine if a senator were not up for reelection, and had a vote for a Supreme Court nominee. Maybe, just maybe he or she would do what is in the best interest of our nation, and not what is in the best interest of his or her sleazy career.
