Michigan was unwarranted. They are currently tied with us and Northern Illinois for 74th in the current 2019 Rivals Recruiting Rankings.
Not sure how a P5 team (of which there are only 65), let alone an SEC team can't at least be ranked in the 50 in recruiting. We have basically reached the halfway point for 2019 recruiting as most top teams have verbal commitments to comprise at least half of their upcoming December signing class.
Something needs to change here:
- We got a commitment from a solid QB prospect out of Ohio last week and fell from 67th to T-74th.
- Thus far 66, 4 and 5-star prospects have committed to SEC teams, we have none.
- This is the last year of Pinkel's 2015 recruiting class, there may be a few leftovers that redshirted but what will be left after Lock and Beckner leave?
- We've thrown money at the problem with stadium upgrades in recent years, yet recruits remain unimpressed.
- Why can't we compete on the recruiting trail? Are our academic standards too high? Is our coaching staff not capable of recruiting on a competitive level?
You can call me names, beaker or whatever you call Mizzou alums/fans that want and expect more from our program, but I didn't make this stuff up...these numbers are real. So the question is how do we make things better?
I'm concerned that most don't even care if things improve and that in itself is perhaps the biggest problem for Mizzou football. The SEC is filled with teams that have rabid fanbases that live and breath SEC football and wouldn't dare miss a home game. At Mizzou our fans would rather go the lake, go hunting or attend a Cardinals, Royals or Chiefs game.
