the NBA requires their players to stand. nary a peep about the NBA from anyone.

It's the employers' right to require them to stand.

and I would expect them to stand for our anthem in a manner of respect; Just like I would expect them to stand for the Mexican national anthem or God Save the Queen or Oh Canada if playing in those respective countries. doesn't mean they agree with every policy of the US or of England or Mexico. It's just common courtesy.

and as an employee, they can try to fight it. they can pay the fines or they can strike or whatever. i think that would blow back on them though.

Personally, I think the NFL can decide whatever they want. It's a private business and they can make their own rules. I think they are smart to try and implement the policy of standing to not alienate a lot of their fanbase. but if they chose otherwise that's their call.
