from cops, who turn and face the cops with something in their hand?

Why are these people so stupid as to turn and face cops with anything in their hand?

Why are they holding anything in their hand when they are trying to elude the cops?

Why do they stupidly ignore the reality that having something in their hand invites death?

Surely, these are the same ones claiming they are afraid of cops, so there is no saying they are not aware of the danger of doing that.
