1. They couldn't qualify as an eligible player elsewhere
2. Improper benefits
3. they want to play for ku
4. they are local
#3 and 4 is a very small population of players, and certainly not adequate to sustaining a national level program. Every time ku is found guilty of cheating in some capacity, they simply move the methods to some other form. If there was to be a meaningful impact it won't be on what happened in the past. It would be to make them operate on a somewhat level playing field or put some kind of controls in place that govern their ability to ignore and work around the rules. That would essentially cripple them as national level basketball entity going forward. Very few people want to come from all around the country to go to school in Lawrence, ks.
Look at how disastrous their recruiting classes were immediately following their last FBI investigation for their ticket scandal. Took them several years to find a new means of funneling sufficient improper benefits.
