We used to have a drill that was to draw, shoot, and reholster meant to practice point/aim at a very close distance. It was a shooting drill right out of the FBI firearms course.
They stopped teaching it because under stress, officers fall back on their training. They were seeing instances of officers drawing, shooting once, and reholstering only to get shot by a very able adversary.
It ain't Hollywood. People don't go down after one shot. I posted a car stop video yesterday where the officer hit the person numerous times and he was wandering around in the street and still managed to squeeze off another round at the officer while he fell in the street.
I would have had no problem with the officer putting 2 more rounds in him as he was going down. Adrenalin kicks in and it is amazing what someone can do.
