in 23 minutes he takes almost 27% of our field goal attempts for the entire game? A shot every 80 seconds he was on the floor? If he had played 40 minutes he'd have had 30 shots!
I like Cuonzo a lot and believe he will have us competitive for years to come......but, that's a mistake and it's got to fall on him. MPJ may have said he was 'ready to go' and that he wanted to 'help the team', but the coach knew what kind of shape MPJ was in, and knew he wasn't 100%. It was easy to see in watching, and It was up to Cuonzo to have adjusted, and instructed, the game plan accordingly. He didn't.
KR, Barnett, Jontay carried our scoring throughout the year, and all of a sudden here comes Michael in for the POST SEASON and he's taking a shot every 80 seconds he's on the floor.----over 1/4 of our FG attempts----in just 23 minutes. Porter's best offensive role in this game probably would have been to primarily be a ball handler, a passer, a decoy, a screener and a setup man for his teammates.
I recognise this is easy to say in hindsight.......but a coach should see what the player's capabilities and limitations are and structure the game plan accordingly.
The crazy thing is I think he's done a great job of that through most of the season, and overall done a great job squeezing out minutes from guys who weren't all conference type players and getting the most out of them most of the time. But this situation was mismanaged.
