when you're talking about getting a top 5 basketball player you're talking about a huge difference in your season. Could be the difference between a sweet 16 and a Final 4. One guy.
In football, outside of a running back or QB, there's not really a single person who could make that kind of impact. (And even RB and QB are limited by the pieces around them)

So while it absolutely happens in football, I'd imagine basketball is worse.
