That's the trick. If you are too attached to these things and someone convinces you are wrong, what does that mean about how you've lived your life thus far?

BTW, this concept is one reason people have a hard time getting out of a cult. They get so sucked in and identify themselves by the group, the very thought of admitting you were wrong, in a way, invalidates the life you've known and some people can't deal with that.
