Referees I sent him a note. Just like with the libs on poliboard...I expect no real response.


Mr Whitehead, as one who played his first HS basketball game in 1954 and last played fullcourt ball two years ago, I have noticed the rapidly deteriorating competence and performance level of referees and I felt compelled to contact you. I won’t go into mistakes made, or how they might be corrected (I’ve also reffed a bit and know its difficult in today’s game) other than to say that much of it could be vastly improved with a very simple and common sense rule change or two.

Anyway, does anyone, on a regular basis, get with all refs and go over the now hideously glaring mistakes for some or preferably all games? Do you not realize how needed that is? Even if they only did it with themselves and critiqued each other it would have to help. The most mistakes have to be in charge/block, and also the excessive foul calling, in which there may be contact but which has NO impact on the game whatsoever. That is difficult to watch and can’t be liked by the coach, the team or the fans. Your referees are literally ruining the game for me and many others. I now only watch my team and no pros any more because even if I don’t care who wins it becomes too annoying to watch and I give up in disgust.

I know you’re busy but would appreciate a response from someone, so that I could hope something might be done to improve the situation.
