law and the UCMJ. The military is supposed to kill enemy combatants.

They can't kill unarmed enemy combatants.
They can't kill an enemy combatant that is surrendering.
They can't kill a wounded enemy combatant who is not resisting or fighting.
They can't target unarmed civilians (obligated to consider 'collateral damage' before striking an armed enemy hiding withing a civilian population..
