There is really only one effective way for gun control

and that is severe mandatory and nonparoleable sentences.

EXAMPLES
Having a gun during commission of a crime: 5 years
Brandishing a gun during commission of a crime: 10 years
Firing a gun during commission of a crime : 20 years

Firing a gun at a public servant: life
Murder with a gun: life (for the gun offense)

Then penalties for what ever the crime is.

Even the most freakish gun nut can not reasonably object to that.
