would be nice, in my opinion. It may also ruin the board. One man's opinion; there are entirely too many "pickle-ish" posts like, "You're a goddamned idiot."
As coarse and awful as it is, and as insensitive to people of faith as it is, it could at least be mitigated if there were explanations backing up that assertion. Some kind of reasoned debate or discussion. But those kind of posts stand alone too many times.
A gem from yesterday consisted of, "iow" in the subject line, and the ways pithy, "fck you" in the body of the text. Brilliant.
Not even an attempt at debate or discussion. Just a drive-by name-calling post. That's pretty pathetic.
My concern is that the stifling of adolescent, immature, dumb pickle-speech can lead to the stifling of "hate speech" which can lead to the stifling of unpleasant speech, to the eradication of any speech that the boss disagrees with.
The Virginia tech board I am on changes my colorful language from...muzz to Muslim, and queen largebottom to Michelle Obama. That makes me angry because it changes my words and put other people's words under my name. Not to worry, I have found a way around that, too.
That board is much less coarse than this one and there is often interesting debate between right and left. People with whom I disagree passionately over there, can debate points reasonably. However, the board is much less fluid than this one, many fewer posts, and it's much less active.
If this board is being more closely monitored, it would be interesting to monitor, that.
Or, the pickles, JGs, and other people incapable of reasoned debate may just decide to limit their invective or at least attempt to couple it with some rational discussion.
Holding my breath.
