Other teams knew if they got to 14-17 points it was game over, the Mizzou O couldn't score at all, let alone score quickly. The special teams were anemic, there wasn't a replacement for Marcus Murphy.
All the opposing O had to do was run dive plays & off tackle with short passing just to keep things balanced and keep the clock moving. There was no need to take risks on offense - it wasn't worth it.
