Isn't that exactly what you are doing by getting all upset about what they are doing? ... discussing why they don't like what the players are doing?
Do they not have a right to express their opinions about the opinions being expressed by the players? Do they not have a right to express their opinions by not attending football games, or by not watching them, not buying cable service to watch them etc.?
"Because the people who are upset want to control the behavior of others." Isn't that what the players are doing? If not, what is the point of their protests? Is that not what you are trying to do... to get people to shut up about it?
"They are intolerant of other viewpoints." It sounds like you are intolerant of their intolerance.
