from doing bad things. You can't have security and metal detectors everywhere. You can't police every single weapon or component of building a weapon. There are too many ways to do messed up stuff without anyone knowing it. You could go to a drug store and buy components to build explosives, pack them into a uhaul you rented, and drive it into a building.

The obvious thing to me is, why would anyone need to own weapons like this? Let people have their pistols and hunting rifles and even a few others. Work on taking everything else out of civilian circulation. How do you do that? I don't know.
