activities, yes. It easily makes up for it. And with teach/student ratios in the 1:1 to 1:4 range, they can tackle subject content much faster giving them more time to schedule other activities on their own.
My house hasn't pulled the trigger or gotten overly serious about it but between having more activities and family time for traveling throughout the year, home school is starting to look very appealing.
We wouldn't have even considered it a couple years ago but the friends we have doing it are really impressive. Their kids are learning at a much faster pace and they get to go to all the cool family fun spots during the school year when it isn't busy.
